‘I started with a couple of driving lessons from Debbie Street, then discussed with her what type of donkey would suit me. She located one donkey, already partly trained to ride and drive, and I paid for her to be fully trained to drive by Debbie. We then bought a second donkey from Debbie, trained to ride and part trained to drive. They are both about 7 years old. Paying for training has been worth every penny, we have two beautifully behaved and affectionate donkeys who are a delight to look after and are completely safe on the road and with my two children. Queenie is particularly affectionate, and can be easily led around the field without a lead or collar just by touching her cheek gently to steer. They obey my five year old son when he asks them to stand, and pick up their feet without a struggle.’

In recent months my husband has been able to fulfil a lifetime ambition and we are now the proud owners of two wonderful donkeys. This has been made possible through the invaluable advice, assistance and support of Debbie Street. Whilst both of us had some experience of working with equines, we would have been reluctant to make such a purchase alone. Debbie has seen us through the initial purchase of our donkeys and found us a couple that suit our needs exactly. She has trained our driving donkey and has also taken us through a training regime – from simple stable management through to long reining and driving. We would thoroughly recommend Debbie as an excellent person to go to for any advice on owning and working with donkeys. She is a wonderful teacher with many years experience and as the British Donkey Driving Champion you simply cannot get better training for yourself and your donkeys if driving is your goal. than ever before and our 4 phases are working very
well with the 4th not actually required often. In
terms of feedback I genuinely feel everything was a 1
for us. Despite the rain I feel Madeline learned a lot
about harness and we both gained much knowledge and
confidence in long reining and driving. I will remember
our drive round the roads for a long time ! I think
that was a real opportunity that many people will
never have. I am in love with Magritte who I think is
the perfect driving donkey. All of the donkeys
were really lovely and each gave their own great
opportunity to practice different things. I think you
are very gifted with donkeys and were able to help us
feel confident with what we were doing and demonstrate
and convey things very clearly. I was exhausted on the
way home and I feel we covered lots in the day but it
was worth it and we really will remember it for a long
time.
